How can I order a cake?
Send an email enquiry by filling out the contact form on this website. It’s helpful to include as much information as possible: when is your special occasion? How many people do you need to feed? Do you already have specific ideas about colours, flavours etc.
How much notice do you require?
This small business has limited capacity but is in high demand! So the more notice you can give the more likely it is I can accommodate your order. 2 weeks is a minimum- although if you have a cake emergency I will always do my best to help.
How can I collect my cake?
Cakes can be collected from the bakery (my home) in Cheriton, SO24 (Just off the A272, about 15 mins from Winchester). Cake collections are usually arranged for Friday evenings or Saturday mornings, but do ask if you need a specific collection time and I will see what I can do.
Do you deliver?
Unfortunately I do not deliver celebration cakes, it would not be cost effective. But if you are choosing Emma’s Little Bakery to create your wedding cake, and your venue is within a 15 mile radius of SO22 then we can discuss delivery and set up options.
How long will my cake last? How should I store it?
Buttercream cakes should be stored in the fridge until an hour or two before serving- be sure to bring the cake to room temperature to soften. All cakes will come with a Best Before label erring on the side of caution in line with FSA guidelines recommending they are eaten within 2 days of collection. Although in our house cake never hangs around for long anyway!
How should I cut my cake?
Well I suppose that’s up to you and how you want to serve your cake- but I really like this advice from Sugar Geek, particularly the second method as it works well for tall cakes and ensures you get maximum servings. Cutting a tall cake into normal triangular wedges as you would with a two layer sponge cake can get fiddly, messy, and everyone ends up with a very tall thin bit of cake! https://sugargeekshow.com/news/cake-decorating-basics-cut-cakes/
What does “Prices starting from” mean
If you are ordering a single tier celebration cake “Prices starting from” will get you a tall, four layer cake, in the flavour combination of your choice, covered in buttercream in the colour of your choice, and can include a simple drip, buttercream rosettes on top, or a sprinkle border round the base. You can add as much or as little as you like. If you want lots of additional details (metallic drips, piping work, fondant decorations, striped buttercream, or a personalised cake board…) I will give you a personalised quote.
Do you charge extra for cake toppers?
If you want a personalised cake topper, animal toppers, cake balloons, bunting, or a new toy to sit on top I will simply add the cost of these items to your quote- I don’t make any profit from these items, but it’s usually easier if I order them direct for you, and then I can place them on the cake. I have built up relationships with other small business owners who make some stunning cake toppers (@caketopperanimals is my current favourite!) so we can pretty much source anything you are after.
How/when do I pay?
When we have confirmed the date, size and rough design of your cake I will send you an invoice to be paid in full, no later than 14 days before collection. Payment will secure your booking. Small design amendments may be made after payment has been made, but any large changes may incur additional charges. Cancellations made by customers more than 14 days in advance of the cake collection date will receive a full refund. Last minute cancellations after this date will not be refunded as ingredients will have been purchased and time spent creating decorative details.
Wedding cakes and larger occasion cakes will require a 25% non refundable deposit to secure the booking, with the remaining balance to be paid no later than 14 days before the collection/delivery.
What allergens do your cakes contain?
All cakes, unless we have agreed a cake free from specific ingredients, contain eggs, flour (gluten), and butter (milk) . Your cake will come with a tick list allergen label, listing all 14 allergens that the Food Standards Agency require reporting. Please note also that all cakes are prepared in a home kitchen where nuts are present. Nuts will not be added to your cake, unless this is something we have agreed, but I cannot guarantee that the kitchen they are prepared in is nut free.
